An Illustration

A picture from our crazy adventure day.  Us, scrunched on the bus.  It’s not a great picture, but shows how squished we really were (are every time we go...

The Adventure of Adventures

Posted by on Mar 19, 2012 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

Let me start this post by saying that 99% of our days here are so very normal.  We do similar things to what we would in the US, i.e. cooking, taking care of little ones, homeschool, etc.  We have a lot of fun and make a lot of noise, but nothing too wild and crazy.  Today, though, was one of those 1% days. It all began with a simple appointment.  I needed to be at the doctor’s office across town by 2 pm.  No problem.  We planned to leave our house mid-morning, have a yummy Ethiopian lunch, and then head over to the appointment.  Well,...

Shifting Gears

Posted by on Mar 11, 2012 in Uncategorized | 4 comments

On the risk of sounding crazy, I have to admit that I love driving a stick shift vehicle.  It’s one of those strange things in life that makes you feel like you have some power!  I realize that sound silly, but it’s true, at least for me.  Well, it appears that the Lord is shifting gears for us and “our plans” which we thought were His plans.  Except that I don’t feel in control.  Quite the opposite, actually, and I think it’s a good place to be when you are dealing with the Lord.  Because I, in my little...

My heart is blessed

Posted by on Feb 2, 2012 in Uncategorized | 3 comments

My heart is feeling so full right now as I sit and think about the wonderful things that have happened in our home in the last week, since “Bebe” (grandma) came to work for us.  I cannot even express it all very well, but definitely want to try. In obvious ways she is a massive blessing to us.  The laundry is taken care of, dishes are washed, floors and bathrooms are scrubbed and beautifully shiny.  She comes every day, ready to get to work and does what needs to be done without having to be asked.  I don’t have to stress...

I love the way the Lord works

Posted by on Jan 24, 2012 in Uncategorized | 2 comments

I was on a blogging roll there for a while and then fell off the wagon!  Oh well, here we go again . . . . Life has been going well, we’ve just been a bit busy.  Pa has been teaching and his traveling schedule is just kicking into high gear!  Thankfully, the church leaders are being kind and have him quite busy the next few months and then not much traveling for April and May (since baby is due in May).  We’re happy to serve, but please keep us in your prayers.  We sorely miss Pa when he’s gone!  It’s quite tiring for...

A Very Girly Christmas

A Very Girly Christmas

Here are some fun pictures from our “girly” Christmas.  Poor “Pa” would have, I think, enjoyed giving a ball or truck or some sort of weapon for Christmas.  But, alas, he was forced to give tea sets, dress up clothes, and fancy dresses.  In a spin on the Lord of the Rings, he said, “Testosterone has forsaken these lands.”  Ha! Here’s “Laura” in her new African dress (please ignore the crazy striped socks that jump out at you!). Here’s “Mary” in her new fancy, long African...

I’m dreaming of a warm Christmas . . .

Posted by on Dec 23, 2011 in Uncategorized | 1 comment

Well, that’s not quite how the song goes, but you get the point.  Christmas is definitely looking different on this side of the world.  There’s the obvious weather difference.  And although it’s not sweltering hot, it has been very mild and sunny.  So, we definitely won’t have a white Christmas, or even one that requires flannel p.j.s.  Another difference would be the lack of hustle and bustle.  No last minute runs to Target.  No forgeting people on the “list.”  And definitely no plethora of Christmas...

The Reader

This girl loves to read.  It’s amazing, really, the level at which she can read as a 6 year old.  And everyone thinks that I must be a great teacher.  Not so, my friends, not so.  I’m not sure where she learned to read so well, but I know she loves, loves, loves to read.  After we finish a book in our homeschool curriculum, you can find this girl re-reading it.  She also really loves to read her Bible.  This is what she was doing this day, when I snuck up on her and caught her deep into her story.  That’s the other thing...

Prayer Points

Posted by on Dec 19, 2011 in Uncategorized | 2 comments

I realize that this blog can’t really get much more random, from updates on the kids, to pictures of strange malt drinks, to “thanksgiving” lists, so I decided to throw in some prayer points, just for fun.  🙂 We have quite a few things we are praying through right now, but some of our biggest points that we want to share include some needs that we have.  We would love it if you would read through and pray for us for these things.  We know that our God is a big God and He will supply the things we need.  1.  A...
