When God struck our hearts with the urgency of the hour nearly seven years ago, our thoughts immediately turned toward our children. How could we prepare them to stand firm and persevere in loyalty to Jesus through the coming storm of the last days? The Scriptures are clear that the primary responsibility for discipling children rests on the shoulders of parents (assuming, of course, that the parents themselves are believers).

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deut. 6:4-7 NIV

Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Eph. 6:4 NIV

In this hour, it is essential that children have a firm grounding in sound doctrine, as well as an awareness of Biblical themes that are important particularly for believers living in the last days. We don’t know what trials are appointed for our children in the days ahead. As parents, therefore, it is crucial that we make intentional efforts—whether we are “sitting at home” or “walking along the road” (or driving to the grocery, or pushing the stroller!)—to establish our kids on the firm foundation Christ crucified before the storm hits:

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. Mt. 7:24-27 NIV

This vision of this project, therefore, is simply to create stories for children that are 1) engaging and entertaining; 2) pervaded throughout by sound doctrine and theology; and 3) filled with themes particularly relevant for those living in the last days, all with a view to seeing children equipped to stay faithful to Jesus through the storms of the last days.

Over the next few months, I hope to publish several illustrated books geared for children ages 7-12 (though hopefully enjoyable to adults as well!). Most of these stories came forth during spontaneous story-telling times with my girls, e.g. before putting them to bed at night or while driving on long trips with them across the country. I pray that God would use these stories to strengthen not only my own family for the coming days, but also any others into whose hands He might place the book.

Emily and I praise the Lord that a believing friend gifted in graphic arts recently communicated an interest in illustrating the stories for us. We are presently looking into publishing options with little to no start-up costs. When these books are finished and ready for printing, we will make all of the stories (with graphics, and possibly rendered in an audio book or video format as well – see below) available to the saints for free online (on the Daniel Training Network website). Therefore, the only income we will receive from the book will be that which is generated should someone choose to order a hard copy of the books simply as a way of supporting our ministry as a family.

In March of 2014 we were able to get professional recorded character-based audio done for several of the books, as well as fully-illustrated PDF’s and ebooks for two of the books. There are two other books currently still being worked on as well as one new story that has been written and is getting recorded. You can check out our first children’s book The Narrow Path on the Daniel Training Network (DTN) website, as well as The Western Woods. The Heaven’s Declare and The Streams In The Desert’s has audio only and the book layout is still being worked on. Enjoy the progress of our project.

We are still working on getting the books that are completed to print and officially in ebook stores.
